From its beginning in Santa Barbara,
CA (circa 1957) - Sambo's reached across America.
Sambo's Restaurant was an American Icon on its highways, by-ways, and her
cities large and small.
Sambo's could be found in the Heartland of America and along its Coasts
All of us know someone who either worked at Sambo's or at least stopped
in for
a cup of coffee and a stack of Sambo's famous pancakes!
From 1957 until around 1978, Sambo's was a growing part of the American
landscape.
For a number of reasons Sambo's began to slow down and its transition
from an
innovative coffee cafe in Santa Barbara to a multi-million dollar
corporation began
to take its toll - In August 1981 there were 1,117 restaurants in 47
states.
And some in the Northeastern part of the U.S. tried a new name -' No
Place Like Sam's ' in an attempt
to reverse a four-year tailspin sadly, in 1982 all but the original
Sambo's in Santa Barbara closed its doors.
Fast-forward to present day... Sambo's is alive and WELL!
in Santa
Barbara!
Embracing the core values of his grandfather, Chad Stevens is driven to
keep his
grandfather's legacy more than just a memory and judging from the
popularity of
this location, who knows... you may just see the regeneration of Sambo's
across America.
